But as with most foods now a days there are several types of peanut butters on the market, I am only going to talk about two different types, which are natural and regular peanut butters, the key difference being between them are what’s in the ingredients.

This is the stuff I personally use and you’re probably thinking this is just a container full of ground up vegetables. Wrong. The 3 Body Types: Ectomorph, Mesomorph, and Endomorph

There are three body types ectomorphic, mesomorphic, and endomorphic. Each body type has a set of particular traits and will respond differently to different workout and diet programs. Not every person will fit exactly into one of the categories but will contain features of each, however one is usually predominant over the others.

Ectomorph:
Have a small build with lean muscle, small joints, and often have below average weight for their height. Also known as the “skinny” guy.
Common Characteristics:
  • Low Body Fat
  • Thin
  • Fast Metabolism
  • Small Joints
  • Flat Chest
  • “Hardgainer”
  • Thin Legs and Arms
  • Narrow Shoulders and Hips
Exercising Tips:
    • Weight train
    • Train with heavier weight in the 5-10 rep range
    • Workouts should be short and intense
Dieting Tips:
  • Eat 5-7 small meals a day
  • Because ectomorphs have a very fast metabolism they need to eat a lot of calories in order to gain weight
Mesomorph:
The mesomorph is somewhere between the ectomorph and endomorph. They have a large bone structure, large muscles and typically find it east to gain and lose weight. Physically they have the more ‘desirable’ body type.
Common Characteristics:
  • Large head, road shoulders, and narrow waist (V-tapered)
  • Muscular body with strong forearms and thighs
  • Low body fat
  • Puts muscle on easily
  • Burns fat easily
  • eats in moderation
  • well defined muscles
Exercise Tips:
  • Mesomorphs respond best to weight training
  • Stay within the 8-12 rep range
  • Some cardio is recommended to stay lean but not a whole lot
Dieting Tips:
  • Maintain your protein intake to at least 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight
  • Your carbohydrate intake should be about 40-60% of your diet (Choose healthy foods like brown rice, oatmeal, vegetables, pasta, and whole grain)
  • Stay lean by limiting your fats to 15-20% of your diet
  • Eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day
Endomorph:
The endomorph is the exact opposite of the ectomorph. They have more fat build up and find it hard to lose it, despite trying different diets and training programs to lose it. They have little muscle definition and have a ‘barrel’ appearance.
Common Characteristics:
  • Larger frame
  • Large amount of fat build up
  • Find it difficult to lose weight
  • Gluttonous appetite
  • Wide bone structure
  • Slower metabolism
Exercise Tips:
  • Do as much cardio as possible
  • Lift weights
  • Compound lifts are great for burning more calories
  • Stay in the 10-15 rep range
  • Keep workout intensity high
Dieting Tips:
  • Count your daily calories
  • Portion your meals proportionately
  • Eat a lot of vegetables to help keep you full
  • Drink lots of water to help keep you full
  • Eat 30-40% carbohydrates
  • Avoid processed food
  • Eat slower

Eat your calories, don’t drink them. It’s that simple. Let’s take a look at why this will work by using oranges and orange juice as an example. A 24oz cup of OJ is about 330 calories now if your drinking this with breakfast most people would probably have 2 glasses of OJ making it 660 calories total. To get the same amount calories by eating oranges you would need to consume about 10 oranges, now for me and probably a lot of other people two oranges would be enough to fill up and you would only consume 140 calories.
Let’s take a look at why eating your calories is better than drinking them. First because it takes longer to eat calories than drink them. Why is this so important is because it takes around 10 minutes from the time you eat to the time your stomach sends a signal to your brain saying you have had enough. The brain can’t react fast enough when you drink something because it’s in you almost immediately and you don’t have to chew liquids.
Another reason why eating your calories is better is because of fiber. Fiber makes you feel more full without loading you with extra calories. Most juices out there offer a fraction of the fiber you would get by eating the fresh fruit, even the juices with “more pulp”. Being overweight, as I am sure everyone knows, is a sure indication of a health risk. Caring about your body and what you put into it is vital to your health. It’s also just as important to know what kind of foods are harmful to your body and which kind are good, generally when mentioned carbohydrates are the first to be brought up and are viewed as the main contributor behind weight gain. They are also mainly thought as cakes, breads and pastas (The bad carbohydrates). They are bad because those types of food are made with white flour, which is processed, meaning they are stripped of their high fiber shell making them high in calories and low in nutrients.
But there is another side to carbohydrates known as complex carbohydrates (I have written more about them in other posts). These are known as the good carbohydrates, which are vegetables, whole grains and fruits. But today researchers have now focused on certain foods known as resistant starch. These particular foods are the carbohydrates that make you feel full longer, and help burn dietary fat and help shrink fat cells. How do they work? Because resistant starch carbohydrates are bulky they take up space in your digestive system and because they are bulky they cannot be digested or absorbed into the body. In turn it does not enter your blood stream therefore, your body does not obtain extra calories. Also when the bulky starch enters the large intestine it produces a certain type of acid called butyrate, basically it blocks the burning of carbohydrates and the liver then uses stored fat for fuel.
Now you’re probably asking how much I should eat and when? In order to increase fat burning after a meal a person needs to replace 5% of dietary carbohydrates with resistant starch.
Here is a list of some foods that are high in resistant starches:
– Lentils
– Yams
– Chickpeas
– Green peas
– Brown rice
– White rice
– Oats
– Kidney beans

My Perfect Breakfast

Here is one of my favorite breakfasts, oatmeal with cinnamon, eggs with some pepper on top, a glass of grapefruit juice and a protein shake. Oatmeal is a great meal to start your day off because it is high in fiber, it is a great source of complex carbohydrates and it is packed with nutrients your body needs. The cinnamon helps your body metabolize sugar, the same goes for the grapefruit juice. The pepper is a great fat burner and the eggs and protein shake for the protein.
